Step 1.37: Organic Revenue

Core Concepts | Tracking Performance | Organic Revenue

Revenue is the life blood of any business, and the beauty of SEO is the ability to calculate our ‘organic revenue’. Organic revenue is simply the revenue that you can ascribe to your organic channel, typically from organic traffic and conversions.

Conversion Revenue

In most tools, such as Google Analytics and AdWords, that track conversions allow you to associate revenue or a value to those conversions. Now, this can be accomplished in a number of ways, the specifics of which do not matter at this stage… But, you should know that more often than not revenue data is tied to conversion data.

Organic Revenue

These are simply the revenue that came from organic users / organic traffic. As such you can do things like dividing the organic revenue by the number of organic users, to get an idea of the average value of your organic traffic.

You can segment all revenue data by channel, so for example, you can compare the revenue of your organic traffic to your paid traffic.

The Bottom Line

This is usually the most powerful metric or data to report on, should you need to demonstrate the value of your work to someone.
