Structured Data is very similar to Meta data and could be described as metadata that sits in the body of a page rather than just the header. Structured data is code that when added to a page or page component like a video or image; tells Google something about the page or page-component.
This can be valuable as Google may not know what your content is about, especially if it’s an image or video. Even if it is text, you can use structured data to markup items as products and apply attributes or properties to them such as price or discount.
Using structured data can really amplify existing content in all of its forms as well as having the ability to change how your site appears in the SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages) … This can help the improve click through rate, which is a direct ranking factor.
