H5 Header Count

The number of H5 Headers found on a page.

Typically, this should be limited to between 1 and 10 depending on the page and its content. There is no limit to the use of H5 Headers on a page other than the standard rules surrounding them.

Returned Values

The value we return for each URL is one of three, each detailed below:

Number

This is a number from 0 to infinity (this excludes headers with errors)

No header tags are present on a page, the page cannot be accessed, or is not a HTML/Text page

Error

When there are headers, but the tags are incorrectly implemented or broken

Examples of How H5 Header Count Data is Used

There are various reasons why you would want to look at H5 Header Count data, we have set out some examples below.

Example 1: Content Per Header

For a page to have more than 4-5 H5 headers, one would expect there to be significant content on these pages. Using the word count of the headers, the word count of the page, and the total number of headers… We can calculate some interesting data:

(Word count – Word Count of Headers) / Number of headers = Content per header

You can sure this data up by removing estimated word counts from templated regions like menus. You can perform this on each page to identify pages with thin content per header or look at the site to get a more holistic perspective.

Example 2: Header Structure

When used in combination with other header data you can assess the header structure of a site or competitor sites. You can make assessments regarding any of the following:

  • Header structure issues
  • Content structure
  • Header hierarchy issues

Simple Example of How This Is Counted

In the example below, there is a total of 2 H5 headers:

  • <h1>first header</h1>
  • <h2>second header</h2>
  • <h3>third header</h3>
  • <h4>fourth header</h4>
  • <h5>fifth header</h5>
  • <h5>Sixth header</h5>

Using this data with other data you can see what percentage or ratio H5 headers are of the total headers on a page. In the example above, there are 6 headers and 2 are H5, meaning that 33% of the headers on this hypothetical page are H5 headers.

What We Do & What We Give You

We aggregate the amount of <h5>example</h5> tags on a tag in a single number. These tags must be open and closed correctly.
