Benefits of Page Title Data
This is the length of the Page Title tag contents in characters, including letters, spaces, numbers, special characters, symbols and punctuation. Raptor’s web crawler calculates this value and makes it available for download when you are exporting reports.
Within the column for ‘Page Title (length)’, there four values that can be returned for this which are as follows:
A number representing the amount of characters within the Page Title
When the contents of the Page Title tag is empty
When the Page Title tag is not present on a HTML/Text page
If the URL is not a HTML/Text page or is inaccessible
The number of characters including punctuation and spaces of the page title.
This number of characters that we count in a meta title, otherwise known as a page title, is based on the characters highlighted in red in the example below:
- <title> Awesome Product | Best Price + Why us | Brand Name </title>
There are 50 characters within the text “Awesome Product | Best Price | Brand Name” when you include the spaces, pipes or any punctuation & symbol.
The examples below show the two most common uses for Page Title data, in terms of how it can be used for SEO.
Page Titles that are too long will often be truncated in the SERPs (search Engine Results Page). This means that some of the sales message is cut off and is hence not shown, this could be valuable information.
You can filter our data very easily to identify pages that exceed the maximum length of a Page Title.
Page Titles that are to short often are not taking advantage of the space afforded them to create compelling sales messaging and encourage clicks. You can raptor’s web data to identify these pages easily.
